Nazi Germany has invaded the Netherlands. Nazi soldiers patrol the capital city, Amsterdam, looking for dissenters while enforcing their harsh, brutal laws. Jewish people are no longer safe. Many have already been rounded up, forced into ghettoes, or worse, transported to camps. Despite such bleakness, there are glimmers of hope, shards of light that come in the form of people willing to fight back. Hannah and Piet, their parents, and others operating in the shadows are determined to do whatever they can to save as many Jews as possible. And though young, Hannah and Piet use their knowledge of the winding, narrow streets, canal paths, and secret hideouts of Amsterdam to become important members of a group dedicated to undermining the Nazis—the Resistance.
