The Free Library is a curated collection of free online books created to help young readers build knowledge and discover the joy of reading. Every title is aligned to the Core Knowledge approach and is available to read online at no cost.
Who is the Free Library for?
The Free Library is designed for readers Grade 4 to Grade 8, as well as educators, families, and anyone who wants to share beautifully illustrated, content-rich books with children.
Are all the books really free?
Yes. Every book in the Free Library can be read online for free. Some titles also offer a free PDF download. Printed editions can be purchased through the Core Knowledge Bookstore.
Can I use these books in my classroom?

Audiobooks are coming soon! Subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to know when audio editions are released.
How do I find the right book for my child or class?
You can browse the full collection here, filter by topic and grade band, or ask the CK Librarian chatbot for a personalized recommendation.
What devices can I use to read the books?
The Free Library works on any device with a web browser — desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Books are optimized for both reading online and downloading as PDFs.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is required to read books in the Free Library. Simply visit the site, browse the collection, and start reading.
Can I download books to read offline?
Many titles include a free PDF download. Look for the Download free button on each book card or landing page to save a copy for offline reading.
